Answer for How soon can you put a baby to sleep alone on a baby cot?

    You can put a baby to sleep in a cot right from birth; however, there are a few considerations to consider. These are;
    • It is recommended that the inside of your baby’s cot should be as clutter free as possible. Pillows and big duvets aren’t safe for babies younger than one year due to the risk of suffocation. If you have to use a pillow, put it under the baby’s sheet.
    • Ensure that the baby’s head is uncovered
    • The room should not be too hot as babies who overheat are at an increased risk of SIDS. They can get too hot because the room is too hot, or because they have too much bedding or clothing.
    • Babies should sleep on their back with their feet at the foot of the cot to stop them wriggling down under the covers. Healthy babies placed to sleep on the back are less likely to choke on vomit than tummy sleeping infants.
    • Babies should not sleep with electric blankets or hot water bottles, although, if you are worried about the cot being too cold you could use one that is removed before the baby goes in.
