Helping Turn a Breech Baby

391

If your baby is in the breech position, there are a few things you can do to encourage your baby to turn. To encourage your baby to change position, these exercises are thought to work best during periods when your baby is active. It may not be a guarantee that your baby will turn but you can have fun as you try. Here are some tricks:

  •  Music & Voice – place headphones playing soft music around the lower part of your belly as the babies will often move their head towards the sound.
  • Do you like swimming? Diving down to the bottom and back up again can get the baby to turn.
  • Walking is a great exercise during pregnancy, and can help to encourage the baby to shift position. Try to walk for 30 minutes each day.
  • Your doctor may try a procedure known as External Cephalic Version—a technique performed by an obstetrician that moves the baby from the outside of the mom’s stomach.
  • Try relaxing on the hands and knees position to give more room for your baby to turn
  • Do pelvic rocks as often as you can. Go on your hands and knees and rock your pelvis up and down (alternately arching your back by tucking your pelvis under and then straightening, like an angry cat pose).
  • Sleep on your left side, with your left leg straight and your right leg at a 90-degree angle supported by the Baby Banda L pillow.
  • Put on some music and sway your pelvis like a belly dancer. The more you move your hips, the easier you make it for your baby to get into an optimal birth position.
  • Take the stairs instead of the lift and walk upstairs two at a time if you can, to extend your pelvis further.
