My son is 5 months and a week old. I am planning to start weaning at 6 months which is in 3 weeks’ time. I have been advised by different people to start him with porridge. Some think it’s good to start with fruits, some think it’s good to start with both. Am a first time mum and not sure which advice to follow. What is best to start him with?

It is recommended that you start your baby with an appropriate single grain meal e.g. rice or maize meal porridge. Introduce one type of grain at a time. Start with an infant rice cereal or then millet or sorghum porridge.
