Hi. I am 5 months and 2 weeks pregnant. I have something growing inside my right breast and when I went to a scan they told me its just a swelling and it will disappear. It hasn’t disappeared and I’m so worried it can lead to breast cancer. What should I do?
When you are pregnant, your breasts undergo some physiological changes in readiness to breast feeding your little one. These changes are caused by the increase in the hormones oestrogen and progesterone and of prolactin – the hormone which triggers the production of milk. Breast lumps sometimes occur during pregnancy. The most common ones are cysts (fluid-filled sacs), galactoceles (milk-filled cysts) and fibroadenomas (fibrous tissue). Since you already did a scan, the swelling must be due to the above and most of these do tend to go away without any intervention. Keep an eye on the swelling and if there is any change, do consult your doctor.
