I was having lunch in one of my favorite restaurants here in Kenya and I had ordered my usual meal of Ugali and Fish. As soon as the waiter placed the fish in front of me, I felt something rise in my throat and sorry to say, I did not get to enjoy that meal. That was the first time I suspected that I could be pregnant.
Here are a few signs that could indicate that you are pregnant
- Nausea and/ or vomiting: This is popularly known as ‘morning sickness’. However, this feeling may appear at different times of day and not necessarily in the morning. You may wake up with nausea. Or you may have nausea all day. You may also notice smells and these may trigger the nausea feeling.
- Breast changes: Your breasts get larger and may feel heavy and tender. Your nipples get darker and bigger. You will notice that your bras do not fit anymore.
- Fatigue and dizziness: You may feel very tired, like you want to sleep all day. This is caused by the massive hormonal changes happening in your body.
- Need to pass urine: You may feel like you need to urinate more often. This is caused by the hormonal changes and the growing uterus or womb pressing on your bladder.
- Headaches: You may find that you seem to get persistent headaches especially when you have not had water.
- Increased vaginal discharge without any soreness or irritation. It does not smell but seems to be much more than usual
- Mood changes: One minute you may be happy and the next you are crying like a little baby, again blame the surge of hormones flowing in your body.
- Food Cravings and dislikes: You may suddenly feel the urge to eat a particular food whilst at the same time disliking your favorite foods.
- Metallic taste: Having a strange taste in your mouth which might also be accompanied by the urge to spit
- Constipation: You may find that you find it hard to pass stool. Take lots of fruits and vegetables and water to aid in this.
