Potty Training: Girls vs Boys

177

Potty training in Kenya is a chance for parents to finally stop buying diapers and channel that money to other household expenses. However, training children to use the potty is not as easy as it seems and usually requires a lot of patience. Apart from being patient during training, the gender of your toddler also plays a role in the way they learn how to use a potty.
Here are some common differences that parents should be aware of when potty training for either gender.
Boys
According to many parenting experts, boys develop an interest in using a potty much later than girls. However, as soon as they get interested it is important to teach him how to aim so that he pees right inside the potty. When done, have him shake off any remaining pee and wipe dry to avoid any infections. If his aim is a bit off at first, allow him to sit on the potty until he is able to alternate between standing to pee and sitting while pooping. If possible, have their dad potty train or seek a male relative to do so

Girls
Girls often have an interest in using the potty much earlier, making their training much easier for mums or parents. Let her use a potty that allows her feet to reach the floor so that the muscles in the pelvic area relax. Make sure her bottom covers the entire opening of the potty so that she does not spray pee all over. When done, ensure that she wipes from front to the back to minimize any infections in the area.
