Breastfeeding Checklist for Newborns

574

One of the most common question that mums ask is how do I know if my newborn baby is getting enough milk? Here is a checklist to help guide you.
1. Is your baby breastfeeding at least 8 times every 24 hours?
2. Does your baby have at least 4 yellow bowel movements every 24 hours by day 5?
3. Are you changing 8-10 diapers daily that seem to be heavy with urine?
4. Can you hear your baby gulping or swallowing during a feed?
5. Your nipples do not hurt as your baby nurses?
6. Is your baby feeding on only breast milk?
7. Does your baby seem satisfied after a feed?
8. Does your breast feel soft after a feed as if the milk has emptied?

If the answer to most of the questions above is NO, please see your health care provider or a lactation support person urgently for further consultation.
