Preparing for two babies is likely to be a financial burden for new parents especially if they are the firstborns. It is for this reason that soon-to-be parents are advised to start preparing early so that everything is ready before delivery. However, making the decision on which items to buy can be hard because they each have to be in two’s. It is important to have some guidance to help you make the right decisions and not leave anything out of your shopping list.
To make it easier to shop for twins, it is advisable to breakdown the items needed into three checklists, which are:
Essential buys – These are the items that are a “must-have” when expecting twins and can range from the most expensive to those that are affordable. They include a cot or two, mattress, fitted sheets and blankets. For changing and bathing, you will need a baby basin, diapers or napkins, cotton wool and cream for nappy rash. Clothing should include a dozen vests, sleeping rompers, socks, mittens, short and long-sleeved bodysuits. You will also need at least six pairs of sweaters, hats and bibs among others. For feeding, you need a dozen bottles, sterilizer and burping cloths.
Useful buys – These items will make the life of parents with twins easier but are not very necessary. For their room, you can buy a pair of rockers or swings that can be used during playtime. If breastfeeding, you can invest in an electric breast pump and twin breastfeeding pillow to make the process more comfortable.
Extra items – These items can be bought with any extra money from the shopping budget and may include expensive matching outfits, bottle warmers and newborn toys among others.
